How do I change my DNS info for my domain name?
|
Propagation is the time during which your DNS Zone information is spread abroad to servers that didn't know about it before.
Why does it take so long? There are various reasons, but some studies have suggested that there are literally millions of DNS Servers that need to be notified of the new information!
Propagation takes two forms, changes to your DNS Zone and changes to your WHOIS information. The WHOIS is the master record that tells every DNS Server in the world which is the authoritative server for your domain. A change to your WHOIS information (done my your domain registrar) can take up to 72 hours to propagate fully. A change to your DNS Zone information typically affects only a handful of servers, and so is done much more quickly |
How do I change my DNS info for my domain name? |
|
You need to basically tell your domain name to "point" to the Izekhosting.comservers. This is done by changing the DNS information for that domain name.
You will need to access the site that you purchased your domain name from and there should be a member's section. This will require a Username and Password [that you received when you bought the domain name]
Then find the section that says something like "Change or Update DNS info". You then replace the information that is currently there with the nameserver information that came with your welcome email. You'll see 2 nameservers and 2 IP addresses.
By entering this information, you are instructing that requests for your domain name are directed to the Izekhosting.comservers. It could take up to 3 days for your domain to be fully propagated and for your site to be accessible via your domain name.
If you can't find a Member's section on the site that you purchased the domain name from, email their support staff and tell them what you want to do etc.
By redelegating your DNS info for your domain name, you are in effect hooking your domain name up with the Izekhosting.comservers and any requests for your domain name will be routed to the Izekhosting.comservers |
How do I access webmail for my account? |
|
To access your webmail, point your browser to:
http://www.yourdomain.com/webmail/
Note that there is a slash on the end, you will not be able to access webmail through this method if you do not add the slash. |
Blocking all mail to an email address |
|
Making individual addresses fail:
If you wish to block all e-mail going to an e-mail address, simply create a forwarder for that address that forwards to: :fail:
Please note that you must have the colons on both sides of the word fail for it to work.
Making the default/catchall address fail:
This method also works if you wish to make the default address (also known as the catch-all address) fail. Putting :fail: as the default address will make all e-mail addressed to an e-mail address/alias (that you have no made a pop3 account or forwarder for) fail. |

The Default Mail Setting
|
|
The default mail account setting, also known as the catchall account, will direct all incoming e-mail (that does not have a popmail account or forwarder/alias set for it already) to the user or address you specify. By default, this setting is set to go to the main inbox for each cpanel account.
When you or your customers change this to something other than the cpanel account's main username, please make sure to use a FULL e-mail address (EX: username@domain.com). For example if you wish to forward all mail for that domain (that didn't arleady have its own popmail box or forward elsewhere) to a popmail box you created on your account called mybox@domain.com, you would put mybox@domain.com into the textbox for the default mail account setting.
Q: Why wouldn't I want to put just mybox instead of mybox@domain.com?
A: Because when you just put mybox, exim (the mailserver) will attempt to deliver to the cpanel user with that username. If there isn't one, then the mail will bounce. If there is one, someone else could be getting your e-mail. |
Problem with my Email
|
|
Here's a brief troubleshooting guide to setting up email. 99% of all email issues result from improper settings on the client's email program. Here's some screenshots for Outlook Express email properties. If you're using Eudora, there are some screenshots down below.
(1). Delete and recreate the email account that is having issues. Most times email issues can be corrected by deleting and then recreating the email account from your cpanel.
(2). Make sure that the domain having email problems, is fully propagated to your account here. You cannot use email before the domain is propagated.
(3). Make sure that you tick the box that says "My server requires authentication"
(4). Make sure that you have your full email address as your username
(5). Make sure that you have the correct domain name in the mail.yourdomain.com
(6). Make sure that you have the correct password that you entered when setting up the account-
If you have checked all your settings and your email is still not working, open a ticket at the Helpdesk and we'll troubleshoot the issue for you. |

What ftp information do I need to login? |
|
To login to your ftp accounts you'll use the following information:
Servername: If the domain has propagated then you can use your domain name for the ftp server. If it hasn't, you can use the server's main IP address. This information is contained within your welcome email.
Username: This is the same as your cpanel username for the account if you're attempting to log into the main ftp account. If you're trying to access an sub-ftp account (an ftp account you created through cpanel), then the username will resemble an e-mail address. For sub-ftp accounts, you will need to use username@yourdomain.com.
Password: This is either the password for your cpanel account if accessing your main account, or the password you set for the sub-ftp account if accessing a sub-ftp account.
Port: The port should default to 21. |

| If i forget my Password? |
If you forget your password for your Cpanel, please submit an email to administrator@izekhosting.com with the following information -
For Cheque Payment/Bank Deposits/Smart Cash
(1). Your Domain Name
(2). Your Cpanel User Name
(3). A copy of our welcome letter which contain the account detail.
We will then email you a new password, to the email address that we have on file, for your account. If you cannot provide us with the above information, we will not issue a new password for that account, for obvious security reasons
Please note due to the security reason, all account and billing information is handled by our Admin Department and they are not in the 24/7 operation.

| I need help setting up sub-domains |
| |
| To setup subdomains follow the following instructions - (1). Enter your control panel at www.yourdomain/cpanel and click on the "Subdomains". (2). Then enter the name you want for your sub-domain in the box privided there. (3). If you receive the following error when you press "Add" - "ndc: reload command successful DOMAIN.COM could not be modified because it does not resolve to a valid ip address. Please ask the system admin to check their resolv.conf and their dns trust relationship Ignore any messages of success this can only result in failure!" Then to correct this problem: - If this domain was recently created, you must wait for it to propagate. This could take 3 days +. - If the domain has fully propagated [that means you can access your site by typing in your domain name into your browser], then it could mean that sub-domains aren't setup on this end. Please email us and ask us to turn them on for you. Sometimes I forget to activate subdomains when setting up a new account. Uploading to your subdomain - Now after you have successfully created your subdomain via your Control Panel, you must upload to that directory. If you created the subdomain of cats.domain.com, then the directory of cats lives at yourdomain.com/cats. You upload to yourdomain.com/cats. Don't upload to cats.yourdomain.com. Accessing your subdomain - After you have uploaded your site to your subdomain, you can then access that site in 2 ways - (1). You can access that site via yourdomain.com/cats or (2). cats.yourdomain.com. You CANNOT access your subdomain via www.cats.domain.com. Here the "www" is actually a type of subdomain in itself. So remember to setup all links to subdomains as yourdomain.com/cats or cats.yourdomain.com. Uploading to a subdomain ..../cats, will have the same Username and Password as your main site. |

| Can I have a numeric subdomain? |
| |
| For sub domain like 2222.yourdomain.com is currently not possible as it will cause errors with your dns zone. Please do not create purely numeric subdomains. |
